i found two caps like that that i'm currently bidding on....i keep you updated!
The aircraft in the foreground are Vought F7U Cutlass, the first US Navy jet with swept wings and the first to have engines with afterburners. From what I've read, not the easiest aircraft to fly nor the best performer either. Its underpowered engines and unreliable hydraulic system made it prone to accidents, earning it the nickname of the "ensign eliminator".
I had the opportunity to fire 5 rounds on one of those about 10 or so years ago at Bisley Shooting Range. It was not very comfortable to use in prone position, but still a cool looking weapon. I was more accurate with the bolt actions (300 yards, prone, iron sights), but not self-loading so the 42 is an interesting evolution.I'm not much into firearms, but I must admit I've always been fascinated by the “Fallschirmgewehr 42” used by German paratroopers.
