I'm in the Fans Of The B-17 FB group where this image appeared recently. The comments regarding the image indicate it has been poorly colourised, according to Robert Stitt [Author of B-17 In Coastal Command Service] the scheme should be Dark Slate Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey with Sky undersurfaces. Further comments include the following:

RAF Serial number FK209 'J' fitted with British designed Yagi homing aerials in the nose and under the wings and American search aerials on the rear fuselage.
Whilst with RAF 59 Squadron Coastal Command based at Chivenor, Devon, was shot down over the Bay of Biscay 120 miles off the French Coast on March 23, 1943, by a Junkers Ju 88 piloted by Oblt Hermann Horstman of 13/KG 40 squadron.
All 8 crew members were lost. They are all remembered at the Airforce Memorial at Runnymede, Surrey, England.

Not exactly cool but rather touching...

South London, c 1940. " The barks of this little dog trapped with his master under a bombed house was instrumental in saving him and his master. The Air Raid Patrol (ARP) rescue squad had a guide to their position under the debris. Rescued after 18hrs.
