Hi,
I like taking care of leather, it can be boots or jackets, I find it fun and interesting. In the last 15 years I experimented with lots of stuff, oils, wax, vaseline, synthetic, etc. Generally I lean toward home made recipes made with pure or basic elements or a commercial product with a low count ingredient list. I stay away from synthetic or ''all in one wonder'' spray solutions etc.
For this jacket that needed some care, it was not dry, just a wee bit pale, I decided to go for pure Lanolin mixed with Beeswax. I had a tin of ''Grasso'', a product from Urad that is basically, Beeswax and Lanolin. I boosted my mix with 2/1 Grasso and pure Lanolin to obtain a almost pure Lanolin paste. For the moment I am very happy with the results.
Here's the work in progress, taken yesterday right after it was applied with fingers and lots, I mean lots, of rubbing and pushing the paste into the leather. Then I buff the surface with the leather itself, folding the jacket and rubbing it on itself.
After 12 hours its still a bit sticky and the shine has tone down 30%. I am very satisfied for now. Once totally dry, I will give it a buff with a ''Kiwi'' polishing glove.
Cheers,
D
