Well my new sz 48 1940 arrived yesterday. With this being my first repro Irvin having only owned originals it ws a bit of a gamble. I was becoming concerned about wearing the originals and as I don't have just one perfect one for general wear I thought this would be the answer.

Unfortunately I don't think it and I are going to bond, but only for fit and utility reasons. It is probably double the fleece pile of any original I have owned, and perhaps that's how they all started out life and the thickness of the wool reduced over time, but there is no way I will ever find an opportunity to wear a jacket this warm. I'm going to stick to originals, but even they are hard to get use from here.

With regards accuracy, it is very good in almost every aspect, even the zips have been improved (I have had a couple of ELC Riri zips for repairing originals), and sitting up on the hanger it drapes just like the real thing. The broken finish hide looks very thirsty, so I tried a little Pecards on the windflap and it actually now looks more like the real colour and sheen of the real thing so I will probably very lightly treat the whole jacket- don't worry, i'm experienced!

So before I get too attached to it (which ususally happens for me after a week) i'm going to resell it if anyone here is interested. I paid 400GBP plus postage so that's what it's back up for. As usual it'll go on Ebay if there are no takers.

I'll get some more pics soon but here was the auction;

Shame it didn't click for you Andrew. Would the thinner fleece on a D-1 or B-6 be a good stopgap?

Here's a shot Tim. Pit to Pit 26, Shoulder to shoulder 22.5, shoulder to end of cuff 26.5, back length 26, front length (top of zip to bottom of hem 23, pit to cuff (that is still below the gussett insert) 12.5. I'm 6'2" and 96kg. I reckon it would work perfectly over your aircrew suit. I never have any need to wear anything other than a long sleeve T under mine.

Bloody beautiful jacket, just wish it was lighter weight. Tim, great idea to bring yours out to swap, but I think yours would be too small for me anyway. Still, it would be the way to take this one back to the UK, if you wanted two!

Rich I think you're right and that a B-6 would be more suitable.

Sure Tim, If the asking price is paid I don't mind how we work it. The less transactions the better.
