Polar Bears

Sorry to chime in at this point… but the polar bear here is a dummy and the whole thing is a mock up… at least here… not the pic with the U-Boot crew killing a living polar bear (not nice at all by our standards) for food/proteins and survival of the crew…
A lot of french/belgium civilians may also find it very „disturbing“ to say the least when bomber crews put X-Mas greetings on hheir bombs they jettisoned onto eastern France and southern Belgium ( end of 44 early 45) … collateral damage excuses did not help /sooth the victims feeling’s of lost Family members at all…
Just to say…
Yes ! I was always aware that the bear was a dummy :) I just wanted to react to creepy situation seeing -SS- smilling with their knife , in term of symbolic , not situation . I'm not the kind of guy to over react to some situations like a Uboot crew posing with theire next meal fiull of protein ( I would act the same ) and painting a "happy Xmas Hitler" , I would have done exactely the same . If the soldiers have been from the Heer I think I would have not react the same and just put a thumb up . My father was born in 22 in France and was sent to Germany for compulsory work service ( STO in french ) He worked in a ball bearing factory . He told me that he was happy to hear the sirens screaming for bombing , he knew that the allies did their job. My mother was born in 32 and much younger but enough to feel the war and see the result of the bombing , she was clever enough to understand the need of such raids . She told me that the British were trowing down some flyers to warn about that the next bombiong raid would point a briodge for example . But in all wars civilian have to endure the crualty of it. Thanks Pilot ;)

I think Blackboxr1200S is incorrect, the trend actually did not fade in the 70s ...

Well , in my mind , no one deserves to die but the factually of war always implies collateral victims. "Friends and/or enemies" victims in depends in which side you think belongs to and , above all , by now , the kind of war . I mean that the WWII is a very specific one 'Cause in the common sense it was a justified one . Just to talk about the bombing raids , when you are a B17 or whatever bomber crew you have to be sure that you fight for something that matter to keep your mind safe and not be traumatized. When Dresden was sacrificed I think that not many crew men of the raid were especially happy. I could go further but it is a vast and difficult subject. I just want to say that whatever you act you have to keep in mind the importance of the consequences. The modern way to drive wars and the depiction by the media tends to dedramatize the horror. We all remember the first images of the Iraqi war in the 90's , by night like a video game . I don't want to speak about so much tricky subjects . But just that , I cannot imagine what's in the mind of a soldier that get up early in the morning, take a coffee and goes to drive a drone thousands miles away. I know the media and Army argue about the precision of the bombing but there so much gap between the WWII Raids and the modern dematerialization . I think I went too far from the subject we were talking about ! It's an very interesting and vast subject to discuss but sometimes I feel that I'm not the type of personn legitimate to give my complete thoughts.
