Pieces of A-2 Jacket

I wonder what was the story behind this auction for pieces of a WW2 Rough Wear A-2.
The seller is a well known collector/seller so he either acquired the pieces this way, or for whatever reasons, cut up the jacket to salvage what he could. Just the label for this parted out jacket is going for what some get for a repro jacket.

With the exception of the label, I wasn't aware that leather jackets were like a mechanical device that you could swap out parts. Guys talk about WW2 manufactured jackets with mis-matched hides, field expedient repairs done by civilian tailors and depot refurbished jackets, so I guess if you have that kind of project in mind and you may have a need for these pieces.

Yes its our olf friend contrailchaser. At least he didn't get it painted and aged. This is how to start collecting an A2, in kit form! Alternatively someone could replace some of the existing parts on an ELC 1401 and sell it as an original jacket with some modern restoration. :lol:

or... if you happen to have a nice origianal1401 with a blown out collar [common problem]........during wwll it was not exactly uncommon to use parts from salvage to refit a-2s particularly in the cbi.

Reminds me of an oldie and apologies in advance;

An English prisoner of war was held by the Germans. The Englishman was shot all over the place, and okay until one day when the German told him, “Englander,your arm is infected with gangrene vee must cut it off.”
The English prisoner said, “Well, okay, but could you drop it over England when you go bombing?”
The German replied, “Ya, that vill not be a problem.”
A few weeks later the German tells the Englishman that they have to cut his other arm off. The Englishman says, “Well, could drop it over England like you did last time?”
“Ya, that vill be done,” says the German.
The next day the German tells him that they have to cut his leg off. Once again the Brit says, “Well, could you do the same as before?”
The German replies, “Vhy, ya.”
The next the German tells him they have to cut his other leg. “Well,” begins the Brit, “could you just...”
The German snapped, “No! Vee cannot do zis.
"Why" asks the Brit,
Vee sink you are trying to escape!”
