Hi all,
Here is a rare patched B-3 for you. Thought it was worth a post here, photo dated 1940, not sure of the squadron, but I'm sure you guys can correct that.

it seems like a moon with a bomb ... is that correct ???

Looks like it is a Martin B-10 pre-war bomber, not a successful design by any means, think the Dutch used them too.

nearly every wwll pic you see of b-3s, the jacs have already taken their toll. fun to see a pic where the b-3 looks newly issued. ditto, the a-2.

They were with the 9th BG, also the 5th was very early an "Observation Sqd " possibly this one could be from that era .

i though that using a moon for the design, it was a unit operating mostly by night

The original design was approved for use in 1924, so "whooo" knows why they decided on the Owl/night look , they never flew night ops during WW 2 that I know of .

Still have their form-shapers in their caps too. Makes you wonder if they're aircrew. Or maybe they swap out the caps for helmets?
