Definitely vaseline, will bring it up beautifula nice catch. the white crud that ya see in the nooks and crannies is probably saddle soap residue and will come off with just water and a light rubbing. the jacket looks thirsty, so ya might want to treat it to a vaseline run down. than give it a wear.
Thanks Vic. Unfortunately, it is not my size.a nice catch. the white crud that ya see in the nooks and crannies is probably saddle soap residue and will come off with just water and a light rubbing. the jacket looks thirsty, so ya might want to treat it to a vaseline run down. than give it a wear.

Oh I agree, very interesting provenanced jackets to appearThat same seller also has a Poughkeepsie, interestingly with a Crown Zipper, I am only on a phone so can’t establish if the zipper is a replacement or original to the jacket, ordinarily they weren’t fitted with Crown and if this is original to the jacket then would be an interesting find
tbh, when it comes to the jackets made in '42, I just tend to assume that any zipper type that was current in that year could be found on any jacket. The Air Force wasn't making an order from Crown, Talon, etc. and telling them to ship it to the jacket manufacturer. They were buying as many zippers as they possibly could, from all the big makers, and when a garment contract was placed, they'd send however many zippers were needed. Some jackets had more zippers of one type (Talon M-42s seem to have been especially common on almost every jacket), but all kinds of zippers were being used. My United Sheeplined has a Conmar. I've seen Rough Wear 27752s with a Crown zipper. So seeing a Poughkeepsie with a crown doesn't surprise me at all. That same seller also has a Poughkeepsie, interestingly with a Crown Zipper, I am only on a phone so can’t establish if the zipper is a replacement or original to the jacket, ordinarily they weren’t fitted with Crown and if this is original to the jacket then would be an interesting find
