What type of finish are they using on their horsehide? From the photographs the jacket appears to be very rough with no shine or gloss, kind of a matted or dull look.

Hmmm, you're right it doesn't have a smooth looking finish in some of the pics.

You'd be surprised at what some of us would buy, I have a closet full of Avirex lambskin noseart jackets, a couple of Cooper, a Willis & Geiger, a Banana Republic and an assortment of other "orphan" A-2s, to prove I have no taste. :oops: (my definition of an orphan A-2 is what the guys here call a 2nd or 3rd tier A-2), luckily for me none around me cares, nor could tell what an 'authentic' A-2 looks like. :lol:

Until I joined this forum, I didn't know one A-2 from another. Now I do. Cuts down the options to buy, unless you can live with one that is simply not spot on, which I'm presently doing. Knowing can be a curse on the budget. Ignorance is indeed bliss. ;)
