Definitely recently taken off. Look how new looking the leather looks where the name tag was removed. Maybe taken off by the vet or his family. Otherwise by the currrent Ebay seller. Either way you look at it, it's too bad
The Evilbay seller claims, as usual, and I believe them this time, that it was that way when purchased at an estate sale. Hopefully the family has them and they're not laying in a box of scraps sold for $5 at the end of the day.
I suppose anyone willing to pull the patches off such a well-preserved jacket wouldn't see the need to leave any other hint as to who it belonged to!
