heya guys!
as I have received the patches I have bought for my new BR L-2A, I thought I'd show you how the jacket will look like.
comments and feedback are welcome
first, the "Story" behind the jacket...
I have been interested in the Century Series fighters and especially the F-101 Voodoo for a long time,
especially in the Voodoos that were given to TAC as SAC did not find much use for it's assigned F-101s originally intended as long range escort fighters.
enter the 81st TFW and it's three assigned squadrons, the 78th, 91st and 92nd TFS.
if the cold war had turned hot, it would have been tasked with what essentially was a one way mission, attacking Warsaw Pact airfields with tactical nukes.
the Wing was highly proficient and had a reputation of being the best Wing in the whole USAFE.
and one of the reasons for this was at one time its commander, the legendary Robin Olds.
so I based my jacket project on this Wing.
and to also include the interestingly colored knots, I chose the 78th TFS whose squadron colour was red acc to my research.
so I assumed that as the wing held a special reputation and status within the USAFE, some of its more flamboyant pilots would also wear special jackets, making them instantly recognizable...
and as the Wing transitioned to the F-4C after flying the F-101s, I have included a Phantom patch as well
so this is the "story" behind the jacket and now for some pictures...
