Hi Scott, are you talking about my jacket? It is very different from the current offering as far as the hide goes. Other details may be different as it was made a few years ago.

Yeah, that one above. The Horween seal and olive thread are to die for, but I know JC can't get that any longer. It's one of the nicest jackets I've ever seen (in pics) :)

I seem to recall John saying that this hide was too thin to use on regular production models. Probably fine but being the stickler for detail/quality he is, it didn't work. I like the LOOK of the jacket and had asked about purchasing it at some point.

The look is outstanding and it is a very comfortable jacket to wear. The hide may in fact be a little thinner, but it sure isn't fragile by any means. I purchased it last year from Weasel Loader, and from what I gather, he was the second owner. It still looks pretty much like it did in the photos and the knits are still tight and nice, not like some other jackets I've had by some big names where the knits give out early on. Some of the other makers jackets are like a Mr. Potato Head toy, where you take the basic shell and put on different pockets, labels and collars to make up the different contracts. Like badge engineering in the auto world, taking the easy way out. Better than nothing, but certainly not the true authentic repro that John does with all his research into the idividaul patterns and contracts. Different strokes for different folks.
I've started reading the Good Wear thread over again on FL, and it is interesting to track the development of John's enterprise from early on. I'm on p.24 and that was about the point when he started offering HH and goat. Until then it was his "Battle Cattle" cowhide. Too bad a lot of the images are down now as they are so old. Too bad I hadn't been on the earlier Cornell Surgery hosted site from the old days, I'm sure I would have learned a lot there, too. CBI, you had some posts on there early on, so you and Andrew and some others must be some of the first customers.
I've been into A-2s for years, but only got really serious about three years ago. I've run the gamut from Avirex in the 80s, thru G&B, Aero, Lost Worlds, US Authentic, RMNZ and ELC. It was an expensive learning curve, but learn I did. Nothing can touch John's work and it just gets better and better. Not bashing anyone else's work or product, but they just don't stack up. He's raised the bar and that's a good thing for everyone.

WOW...the mustang hide is amazing...great looking jacket. Have never seen anything like it.

Here is another contract John has done with that hide. By the way your new 27752 looks superb!!!

Hey Allen, I stand corrected on the Mustang hide. Looks just like mine, and I love it. I wonder how many of these got out of the stable?

Scott, the link you give to John's description on his site says the hide for that jacket is sourced in Italy? Looks a lot like the Horween. I think a Star Sportswear in this dark hide would be killer!

Yeah, but I think JC told me it was the Horween. Either way, I don't think we (he) can get it and I would love to!

Your hide on the 27752 is the same hide as my Aero. I think John got enough hides from Horween for about ten jackets. I was the one who bought your RW from John and if wasn't too big for me I would have not sold it on. The collar on your jacket is insane:)

Hi Allen,

Good to know the history of my jacket. Did you keep the Aero? This hide is so different it would be hard to pass it on.

I still have the Aero and it is one of my best fitting jackets. I really like the hide and I don't think we will see it again from John.

That was the one I wanted a while back Allen. Sexy jacket.
Here's more pics. I made a screen saver out of them!

I agree Scott. A friend and forum member bought this jacket from John. Almost two years ago I got lucky and had one made while John still had this hide. The hide is plenty thick and the grain and feel is incredible.

Allen, those pics are of my Aero.

The Aero jacket is a little loose on me, so I used the HWT, and it now fits fine. No post treatment pics yet.

There are two Aero jackets above this post...would you guys consider them both seal? My 27752 is seal, but much lighter in brown than the dark Aero with the red knits (which looks amazing).

Your Aero looks incredible!! The link that Scott put up is Saucefiends jacket in John's Italian seal HH. I am pretty sure yours is the Japanese seal 18775 on John's homepage. Your a lucky guy, that is a great jacket.

I would consider them both seal, but your shade of seal would be the more accurate to the originals IMO.

I think from talking to John the Horween (assuming its the hide with an almost waxy finish) is a hard hide to work with and as such he has wound its use up
The darker seal from Italy that is shown has less grain than his other hides and was rejected by one top maker as they said it was to light in weight
