Another thing with specialists/aficionados/geeks etc.:
We typically have been disrespected, let down, or misunderstood in some way, by real life and people.
We then want to build something private, that they can't get at or will not care about, and take it not just seriously, but personally.
It's a way of compensating. It also explains why some are so reluctant to share knowledge - they need a place in their lives where they can have complete peace and control.

Andrew,
My reference to you expertise is due to my envy of your collection and your knowledge about the making, use, and history behind leather jackets - military and civilian. You seem to be as interested as the rest of us in the symbolic power and attraction th they give off! I'd love to get my hands on one of your B-3's. I had my USAF uncle's jackets years ago (thats when my fascination started!), but I didn't know how to lovingly care for it and it fell apart. Tragic! LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU WANT TO PART WITH ONE.

FORGOT TO ASK- WHICH "JC" IS THE EXPERT? I ONLY KNOW OF ONE AND I DOUBT THAT'S WHO YOU'RE TALKING ABOU

First of all, there's no such thing as an expert because there's always something you don't know. And J.C. would be one of our moderators.

JC = John Chapman, buzzthetower, Good Wear Leather.

JC = J.C. Slongo, contrailschaser.

Thanks for the complement, but it's totally unjustified. Yes I have some USAAF jackets and Irvins in my collection, but so do many other collectors. I am learning all the time about jackets, but am no "expert", just an enthusiast perhaps. :oops:
