Thanks for the advice about getting this little rather intimate photo out to all my fellow jacket nuts. This briefing room must have smelled like a cross between a locker room and a shoe store. These guys seem oblivious to all this. Does anybody else see the the humor here?

Hmm.... I imagine we're getting your vibe (and from another post of yours as well) so what, we're here for the VLJ's! With all due respect remember who these guys are you are commenting about.

Most of the A2s look as if they have only recently been issued to the these guys.

Agreed -- not a lotta shell shock on the jackets or the faces.

I stand corrected and rightly scolded for my joking around about the leather jacketed guys in my post! They've been my heroes and idols since I was a child and my uncles were among them in WW II. You have to admit, though - there is a sort of fascination at the heart of our "Jacket nutness" that brders on obsession!

No problem FJ, I was probably being overreative when it wasn't necessary. I had the wrong end of the stick so apologies for that.

Great shot.

No way FAKE! This is a shot of the crew of the Ritsy Blitz, probably taken, as Andrew has suggested (and no one knows A2's better than he does) soon after they were issued - they look pretty non-scuffed up. Besides, the photo is obviously period and why would they be posing back then? These guys were obviously proud of their sharp looking flight jackets!

OK - you got me on that one! Sometiimes I take these things a bit too seriously and miss the irony. Why is that, do you think?

Don't sweat it. Specialists have no sense of irony. If they did, they'd stop being specialists.
Then the world would be left without all kinds of interesting sh!t.

Simple: just like you said: we are a bit nuts and therefore more sensitive about certain things than your average citizen. Like the patina on leather, "the fit", the lenght of the sleeves and whether they sit right when driving a car. Most illustrative of all: the beauty (or lack thereof) of the shape of zipperteeth: Crown versus Talon versus Conmar. Have you ever heard anybody in your circle of everyone you know who broods on that topic when deciding on a jacket? :D :D
Mind you: I'm one of them and feeling happy and content about it!
