Yes, great LVC's Grant - that's the look for sure. I'm on a new round raw denim jeans so a long time before looking really awesome. I always wonder if its worth the time to get those ultimate fades!

No Cone Mills, so in 2 weeks there won't be a single US shop/manufacturer making raw selvedge denim material in the entire US.................now that is a joke!

That is so sad. Wonder who's going to buy up all those beautiful looms at the White Oak plant; probably going to be crated up and shipped to Japan.

5 years of wear, crikey you did well! I've still got about 4 pairs of 44's that I doubt I got more than 3 years out of!! For that reason I've declined to buy any more at the crazy prices they go for now. Anyone tried Prison Blues? Much cheaper and a great old school fit, seem to recall the co here in UK are Hastings based The America Ground, they do some great work wear based on prison clothing, the hickory stripes shirts a favourite of mine albeit maybe not everyone's taste!!

Damn shame about Cone Mills closing, there is something quite special about US made selvedge Levis.

You're bang on there Grant. LVC's are my faves by far, also own Samurai's, StudioD's, Warehouse and have had lots of others but none can touch LVC for longevity or fading.

I guess I'd best pick a couple of pairs up sharpish!

Hey Ian,
That's awesome you've been able to wear vintage denim!
As far as current LVC sizing goes, it tends to be all over the place depending on what year you're looking for, so I always try them on before buying or ordering.
Does any place here in NYC sell the Cone USA made LVC or regular USA made Levi’s 501’s?

Yep, you can try on all of the LVC line (from 1800's to 1976) 501's at the Levi's store in the Meat packing district . (14th St bet 9th and 10th).
I was just there last weekend.

You know, I’ve actualky been in that store, but not since 2002. I used to go there and the Levi’s store that was on Lexington Ave, back when my wife had to guide this midwestern hick around Manhattan. I must have even purchased an LVC shirt or two. Sometime shortly after, I stopped shopping in these stores as I went in once and they suddenly had all of these new jeans fit types for men. Low rise, etc. and I really didn’t understand any of it. On top of that, the denim felt very light weight. I abandoned the idea right there. That’s the point that I moved onto somewhat vintage USA made Levi’s via eBay. Since sometime in 2002 or 2003, I gave up the idea of buying recently manufactured Levi’s and certainly no Levi’s that weren’t manufactured in the U.S. I guess it’s time to revisit Levi’s...probably well past time....probably nearly too late. Now to find a 555 LVC Valencia factory, San Francisco 507 xx, type II, jacket in size 38 or 40, as well.

Kick ass jeans Grant, maybe need to loan you a couple of my 44’s
I have done a pre-soak before I started wearing them proper, read on somewhere that it takes some of the starch out in the first instant
Am rotating between two US 44’s and a pair of European jeans
Have some pre-washed European 47’s for dog walking, not sure how accurate the last pair is compared to Levi US offering but they are a nice cut and more interesting than the stuff in the Levi’s shop,,,leather patch etc

Thanks rat!
Check out a buddy of mine rocking his old '44's. He puts me to shame with the dope fades.
He's also wearing a 555 Valencia St. No2 denim jacket.

you guys are lucky to have a place to go and try stuff, makes a HUGE difference!
I may go down there, but, unfortunately, my current sizing will be a bit skewed because I’ve been dealing with cancer since the spring and between surgery and chemo I lost 30 pounds. I’ve gained about 10 back and much of my hair. (First scan was clear...so, hopefully, it will remain that way) Anyhow, I want LVC or just US made Levi’s that will fit properly once I get back up to my normal 150lbs. So, it’s a bit of a dilemma right now. May not help me much to have, as far as trying jeans on, a Levi’s store local. It will still be good to see them in person,

Thanks, Wayne! I do my best, but I have my days. It haunts me, but I want to stick around. :)

By the way, I called the LVC store in Manhattan today and said to expect Cone denim to shrink up to 1.5 inches in the waist and two in the inseam. Sounds exactly like what Grant and everyone else has been saying. So, keep that in mind as I suppose it’s gospel, now.

Without Cone who will Levis claim they get their signature roping and leg twist from?!

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought I got an email from Pacific Blue Denim that they were going to soon start manufacturing denim. They are US for now so...

Interesting repair to the turn up on those 44's! Might need to re-think the 3 or 4 worn pairs I've never had the heart to bin, poss get 1 or 2 made good although mainly mine are worn around the crotch area, no comments please!!!

Johnwayne...my European 44’s had the crotch blow, think Levi’s will do repairs and funnily my same pair have similar repair on the turn up, to what Grants friend is wearing
Did read the pre-soak before wearing helps but am sure just as many on here will wear them rigid from the off
