Andrew surely you do not take the this jacket madness we all suffer from that seriously and actually clothe your member
in leather and imply perhaps we all should !!

Not very small, just short.

Size 1 is short small
Size 2 is short medium
Size 3 is short large
Size 4 regular small
Size 5 regular medium
Size 6 regular large
Size 7 long small
Size 8 long medium
Size 9 long large
Where did you find that ? It's wildly inaccurate. Trust me, a size 2 is very small. I take a size 4 and I can fit into a small L-2B.

If anyone outside of Canada or the US is thinking of bidding be aware that shipping will probably be very expensive...anything over a certain weight becomes a real problem when buying from Canada.

That Irvin size guide - if correct - is interesting, in that say a Size 7 would be smaller than a size 3? Maybe our resident Irvin expert can confirm it. If so, it sounds like an 8 might be just right for me...approx 38 chest but long body.

Gone, but not forgotten.
Here's the complete chart from TFL, which the resident Irvin expert may have had more than a little to do with.

IRVIN JACKET SIZES

22C/317 1
22C/318 2 Height...5'4"- 5'6" Breast...34" -36" .waist....30"-32"
22C/319 3 HEIGHT 5' 7 - 5' 8" - BREAST 34-36" - WAIST 30-32"
22C/320 4 Height 5'.8/5.9" Breast 36/38" Waist 32/34"
22C/321 5 Height 5’10/5’11, breast 38/40, waist 34/36”
22C/322 6 Height 5'11 to 6'0" Chest 40-42 Waist 36-38
22C/323 7 Height 6'- 6'2" chest ? Waist?
22C/324 8 Height 6’ 2” -6’.4”, breast 42”-44”, waist 38”40”

Before 1939 sizes of Irvins were apparently just given in chest sizes.

No Miles, I don't know where tamoko got this size chart from but it's not right, Peter is correct. Even going by the information on the label is misleading for a good fit because the jackets come up larger than indicated. I'm a 42 chest, but a size 5 fits me well, a size 6 is OK but a little on the big side. If you ever intend buying an original, it would be best to get the exact dimensions and never go by the label. I'm waiting for Roughwear to put all that into English now.............

If a 5 fits you then a 2 and a 8 will also fit you - chest-wise. But the length is what is supposed to vary. Same way a 1, 4 and 7 will fit the same person and 3, 6 and 9 the third chest size. Simples !

It's the same sizing system as used on all post WW2 British combat clothing until the NATO / metric height/chest sizing kicked in around 1986.

Right, like 4 = S Reg.
Yes, that's right but it doesn't make a size 2 short medium. Size 2 is roughly 34" chest. End of story. Your chart does not relate to Irvin jackets. They are all short !!

Yes, all a bit confusing. Actually, I already have an original Irvin. No label, so no idea what size it is. Just need to match up the sleeve zippers and I'll be perfectly happy with it...maybe a bit big, but Irvins look fine whether fitted or oversized. As you say, they come up larger because they were intended to be worn over the unform, which ups them by one or maybe even two sizes.

I have not been able to contribute to this post until now as we have been in Rome for five days and just got back after a tedious 26 hour journey! Here is my most up-to-date list. The original list on the FL is an earlier incomplete version.

IRVIN JACKET SIZES
22C/317 1 Height...5' "2"- 5',4", breast 32"-34", waist..30"- 32"
22C/318 2 Height...5'4"- 5'6" Breast...34" -36" .waist....30"-32"
22C/319 3 HEIGHT 5' 7 - 5' 8" - BREAST 34-36" - WAIST 30-32"
22C/320 4 Height 5'.8/5.9" Breast 36"-38" Waist 32"-34"
22C/321 5 Height 5' 10" - 5' 11", breast 38"-40", waist 34"-36"
22C/322 6 Height 5'11 to 6'0" Chest 40-42 Waist 36-38
22C/323 7 Height 6'- 6'2" breast 42" -44", Waist 38"-40"
22C/324 8 Height 6' 2"‚ -6' 4"‚ breast 42"-44", waist 38" - 40"

Before 1939 sizes of Irvins were just given in chest sizes.

The above sizes assume the jacket was worn over a service uniform, so the actual measurements for the breast and the waist are usually 3" to 4" larger. The breast and waist sizes for sizes 7 and 8 are the same but the jacket is longer for the 8 than the 7.

A size 3 was certainly much smaller than a size 7!

I should have guessed it Miles, especially with your Stanley Baker avatar!
