Very nice jacket with a great fit for you.
My United appears to be the same leather as yours and the colour is great IMO

That is, without a doubt, the best fitting and most authentic draping repro I have ever seen. Beautiful jacket!

Great jacket. Honestly, that is the best fitting repro on a person I have seen in years. I have always been a fan of the cut of the Monarch. John has really nailed the color and cut on this one. It has me thinking about one for myself, but I just don't have the patience to wait.

Thanks for the compliments chaps.
I have to say it is the best A2 fitting jacket I have ever had.

Over the last 6 days I have been wearing it every day and thankfully the English climate has already meant it has faced Heavy and Light rain, Sunshine and even Hail.
Just snow to come !

I have also been working the leather with my hands every evening to make it as soft as possible and adding those character lines. In addition to finish it off I have using my special technique of spot heating to soften certain soft areas.

I took a few pictures out in the sunshine today and can spot the wear already from that day of opening the magic Goodwear box.

I also went to see my son this morning and got him to take the odd snap on my I Phone with me wearing it outside.

I love the colour and the fit and that collar is just the best.
It looks great both snapped and unsnapped.

So in conclusion a great jacket and almost perfect.
What would make it perfect for me ...Red Knits of course

Hang on hang on I am not losing it .
I don't mean to add them to this wonderful jacket but instead thoughts of my all time favourite A2 contract .
Aero with red knits. Seeing John's (CBI) recent original acquisition has only made the temptation only worse.

So do I trade it in now that the fit is spot on and get the Holy Grail "Aero" or do I just buy another !!

If only cars would not get in the way.
I have spotted a 1967 Alfa Spider Duetto (red of course) that is calling out to me like a mermaid on the rocks ... buy me...buy me...
A third Alfa on the driveway ??
Money money money !!!

Alan,

That's a spot on fit and John has definitely nailed it perfectly! I took these pictures a while back of one of the sources of your GW Monarch and meant to share them on VLJ, and your posting has gotten me off my butt to do it. This is my all time favorite original and I can tell you that it fits and drapes on me like your GW does on you. I bought it off of Stony over 10 years ago and he got it from an auction. I believe that he only paid $400 for it. Amazing! He's got to be one of the most resourceful A-2 hunters that I know of. Needless, to say that I did not pay $400 to purchase from him though, but it was the best acquisition that I ever made of an original. Everything is original to it and it is on John's CD. I hope you enjoy it!

Alan - keep it and maybe buy your Aero next year. No hurry, slow down and enjoy. My guess is you will be able to save your loose change for another jacket in a year or two!

I am JUST now able to wear my jackets again after 6 months of NO use due to weather. Its as if I have an entire new collection to enjoy with no urges for new purchases. Yes, I DO have a deposit in with John @ GW but there is no rush!

As I recall Andrew (Roughwear) has a blackened out version on his GW Monarch.
Perhaps he may have the answer ?

Thanks for posting the detailed pics of your original Monarch George. It's a cracker! I'd love one in a size 46 as this contract always fits small.

The Talon zipper on my GW Monarch is blackened only because I painted it.

apologies, I'm getting my member user names mixed up!

Andrew what did you paint your talon with? I'd like to get my hands on an original blackened one but wouldn't know were to start.

I used enamel paint. Sourcing an original blackened brass Talon is tough. They occasionally come up on Ebay. Here's the link to my GW Monarch, which is one of my favourite repros.

Andrew
Can you explain a touch more.
What brand of enamel paint.
Shade colour ( I know its "a black colour " ...but it might mean a Gunmetal shade etc
How many coats did you give it.
Does it bond well ? Will it chip off easily under wear and take of zipping
Any pictures of doing this

Of the many you own, I think that one looks the most perfectest on you. The fit and the jacket are as good as it gets.
