Burt‘s sword, is an Officer’s sword Type 98 , former owner purchased the blade after he get his officer commission (time period between 1938 to 1942) , and customized other parts, sheath,hand guard, handle etc.

Based on this pic, metal parts were golden plated (Thick layer of gold. Usually they don’t , unless it’s owner promoted to Gen. Or the blade was a gift from Mikado himself) I think , more than 80% chance, it’s former owner came from a wealthy family, he can afford good stuff. Burt get a good sword in general.

Here‘s mine. It was a gift from the family of a UK soldier after WW2 to my father. I think it’s 16th-17th century.
