ID help on a G-1...I'm a newbie.

Hi everyone,
I just bought this G-1 in a vintage shop here in UK for pocket-money; it's well worn and tatty but I love it! I've had my eye out for an "original" jacket of this type for a while and this fell into my lap. Easy to wear and I won't have to be too precious about it, as it's a keeper. So, it's been around the block and needs some TLC - new/additional buttons, knits (probably...£'s..) and general advice from you guys, if I may. The zipper is a YKK which has me concerned, but could be a replacement.

I'm just after an ID as to it's type and maker and date parameters. From searching thru past posts, it could be a 55-J-14? Dates 47-50, or a post 1950 type? There is evidence of white paint on the back of the collar and some lettering forms, so might well be USN. The depth of knowledge is astounding on this forum.

Over to you! And thanks, in advance, for any advice..

Royal

Hey, nice find, especially it is was for 'pocket-money'.
I know an experienced, pro, collector-guy in London, who can do a wonderful job restoring this. pm me for his details if interested.

Thanks for the swift replies, chaps.
The seller deals in theatrical and ladies vintage clothing, so this was a wild card whilst out with my better half! I love sequins like the next man, but give me old goatskin any day....
