Hi, I’m a curious passerby looking for any information about this jacket :)

I recently purchased this jacket for a good friend to go along with his introduction to flying.
I‘m completely new to any knowledge on vintage jackets. After a quick research, I became really fascinated by the stories they represent and would love to know more about the one I found.
I’m guessing this is a replica, because of the lack of wear and tear and the price I paid.

It’d be lovely if anyone could tell me about its history or any curious facts related to it!

Your jacket is a recent reproduction of a WWII US Navy flight jacket made by a company known as Gordon and Ferguson, known as the M-422a . Its made in Pakistan by the 5 Star Leather Co a reliable maker who produces mid level repro military flight jackets and cloth jackets .

That’s a nice jacket. There are a couple of departures from the original-it appears to be black, USN jackets were various shades of brown. The collar was never detachable, and the lining was rayon satin, not cotton as that appears to be, in various shades from reddish to brown. That having been said, it wasn’t made as a replica WWII jacket, and Five Star jackets are not to be sneezed at. Nobody but jacket geeks like us would be at all concerned about the details.
