GW 36 Werber

CBI did pay less - as it was a used jacket, not a new one. It was my first attempt at a completed new pattern, and I had to ensure that the thing came together as I intended, being that a customer was waiting on the pattern. My assessment with the new pattern was that it fit a bit tight for a size 46, but I could only know that by making a test and then wearing it, finding out what works and what needs some tweaking. That, hence, made the jacket used, not new.

I had been talking with CBI about other stuff, and he asked if this jacket would ever be available. Knowing that he's almost a size smaller, I thought it would fit fairly well - shipped it out, and shazzam. He and I have talked about a number of things, including a supposed major movie that wanted wardrobe A-2s, which may turn out to be a real pain in the arse. We couldn't know that, but time has proven it out. They asked if he would be hired as a consultant, and they definitely wanted my jackets. Evidently a sampling would be free, in their minds, though they agreed to paying. We aren't strangers.

CBI only got the jacket because he asked about it. I have other jackets - someone's going to get them, but I hope that no one suffers anxiety about not getting it if someone asks for the jacket before, and gets it.

Thanks,
John

Quick to defend what exactly? Call out a stupid post? Guilty.

Inner circle?
Regular customer?
Buddy?
None of the above. In fact, I'm still in line for my very first purchase from GW/JC. Although I've had a couple GW in the past, they were second hand and worth the "hype".

What's your beef? That's a better question. I'd imagine that a handful of guys here that have 8, 9, 10+ GW jackets have become friends with JC. Well there's a crime!

this EXACT jacket has sold and currently resides in my closet. He is offering that pattern for orders. ! think the price will be a little more than the other A-2 contracts.

The quote was the issue. And I asked a question. It appeared to go unanswered. Given the jacket is potentially the first one it would generally go for a reduced price. I use the example of the $550 L.W. Foster that I posted, praised enthusiastically and recommended as an instant buy option for the forum members. I had already commented in the earlier posts of the parallel thread that jacket is great. John Chapman makes the best A-2s and M-422s (potentially now G-1s as well? bar none! Before CBI could opt in to respond you waded in to put your opinion across. Which is entirely supported and appropriate. Last week I dabbled in a little experiment. I had sold some rifles and was sitting pretty with spare cash. I found a Buzz Rickson Aero, brand new and hard to find. I put up some pics on the forum. Not a single comment. Pretty much as expected. Any post with a dodgy A-2 on eBay for $799.99 attracts more attention. I would delve into the used GW A-2 market in a heartbeat. I have only encountered an early Doniger via the forum in a size that would probably still be too big.

Old 'rotenhahn' used a standard operating procedure back in the day. A factual debate soon became a personal one.

The post had not mentioned price of the new 36 Werber pattern. A response like 'mates rates' ;) was more in the spirit of the forum. The response appeared to dodge the question completely. And then it tumbled in to the usual recourse. Someone gets their back up...I will use ;) instead of  in future to relay a satirical tone. If you could just recall that prior to leaping to defense of mature adults who can look after themselves... ;)

John,

Your business is your business. Literally. I have no issues with that whatsoever. I was making a small jibe at CBI as in the eyes of some he is always first in the with the latest sensations...(Tanker etc). No hassles with that either. And it was not the spirit in which the first comment was made. Tone and inflection is not an internet option. We have discussed my opinions in the past and there is nothing new there. I truly admire your passion and the efforts and pains you take with your craft. I only take objection to those that either directly or inadvertently get the shackes up and start swinging without any clarity. You have to concede there are guys on the forum, and in the real world just like that. Politics, sport or Religion. Religion rarely waves its ugly head. And that debate is settled. 'Our God' loves us more than their God. We have Apaches and Predator feeds! Too soon?

I think I just posted more praise on your kit after this little 'toe to toe'. I would love a SAT in a 42 with the sexy buttonholes! I am just too impatient. By the time it arrived I could be hell bent on WWII Airborne? I appreciated your taking the time. The majority of forum members need no explanation. I am happy to debate it with the rest. Avagoodweekend!!

nevermind

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Well, I wish I knew wtf was up with this whole conspiracy couchy has devised. I guess I just fell into his mental quicksand, thus proving some vast conspiracy to pimp up GW. There seems to be some motive to sort out the bad guys based on this thread, how one posts, when one posts, and their tone.
Another one bites the dust. Sorry nobody got a boner over his A-2. I find them personally on par with other OTR fashions that charge too much. Hence, I didn't say anything. Next time, I'll jump up and down and get all wet when someone posts something. Regardless of whether I like it. Oye effin' vay!

There was no conspiracy. I thought I had explained this in the last response to your post. I am not sure you take the time to read them, just that there is a potential you have the last word irritates you. John Chapman took the time to respond and the matter was a non-issue. I was actually typing to that effect when John posted. Good Wear is a business and they have not been aggresively targeted. This was explained in the last post. You took it upon yourself to redirect the tone of the post, which in essence did not concern you, in a completely different direction. If you are having erectile issues that is for another forum. The vast majority of posts on the forum are to enlighten the members of the forum to a new jacket or anything jacket related. Many of the bipartisan members of the forum are long gone for one reason or another. And many are posting less and less. I will not even speculate on their reasons. I just calmly read, re-read and interpret what is being put forward. In the Army we call it 'think before speaking'. It is a common process.

I respect your opinion on Buzz Jackets. I happen to like them. And RMNZ jackets too! They do not rate much of a mention these days at all. In the day they were highly regarded. Nobody can afford them now as they considered a high priced boutique item. I like to buy things that are hard to come by...rare insignia, mint large sized 70 year old uniforms. I buy Buzz Rickson jackets as 90% of the time I sell them for a profit.

John Chapman and I discussed the matter and it appeared the matter was sorted. Then a trio of retorts...The first I could easily abide as CBI could have been affronted personally. The next two to a lesser extent. Jeff M did not even appear to 'have a dog in the fight' so to speak. I guess 'when the dogs are barking, you bark too'. Not you personally, but it is a saying. I am sure one or two have waded in to have a crack too.

Good luck with the boners!

And I love the jacket too! The early A-2s are sensational and a long overlooked part of the evolution of the flight jacket.

Army trained, triple traded Signaller. Earned my wings and lid at the mighty 126 Sig Sqn (Special Forces)...35 wpm 10000 key strokes 100%. Commando qualified typist...the benefits of a Royal Australian Signals upbringing.

You can read about me in here!

And my pic is in the inside cover in here!

Then I went Aviation. This is where I developed a steely resovle and an enhanced ability to suffer fools..

And a never fading love of Rotary Wing!! (Just don't mention ARH, MRH or the HMAS Choules).

REALLY love this jacket.. In hindsight the perceived angst was probably jealousy that it went so cheaply to someone else. Not that it would have fit. I am readily highlighting larger sized stuff on eBay so that others can make a choice. Need some of that karma to swing my way. Not that I have much to complain about. My Buzz Rickson DOES give me a boner! A big one...with flames down the side and a fox tail swinging in the air!

I won't even explain the boner I would get if I had a jacket like the 36 Werber!! You would shit yourself!

If you merely wanted info from CBI, why not PM him? You discuss something in a public thread and I'm sorry, I missed the rules set forth in regards to your post and who could reply.
You could have taken this all important query to PM. I have no idea why you didn't, other than you got hurt that nobody likes certain brands and rave over others.
I've done a favor for you in the past. I have no bone to pick with you, yet I think you set yourself up for retorts here. And why the snarky remark about JC visiting the forum if you weren't looking to jab folks into a verbal virtual jest?
I don't get it, but you've already pointed this out.

haha, Couchy, I went to Armoured (tanks) and gained a steely panzer glare and LOST the ability to suffer fools!

My Buzz Rickson B-10 also has the ability to render ones appendage a little firmer than normal (thanks to Hansen in a most non-weird way :? )

And lastly- I agree re the '36 Werber- it would be an Antipodean bone fest my friend!
