Red rot appears to be a USP for most used Spiewak jackets. ;) This does not seem to a problem with Doniger A2s, but I'm not sure why.

agreed. goat dubows, donis, etc do not usually have the dreaded red rot, ditto m series navy jacs. spiewak must have done something in the tanning or sourced sub standard hides for their a-2s. reckon no one would know they were fubar at the time, but, now, ya see em, soon ya wont. btw: i read years ago, that goat hides were sourced in the us, and from india. thus, the difference in weights of the hides used on wwll jacs. best guess is that the us hides were thicker [better fed], and the indian hides were thinner. never the less the vast majority of both the thinner and thicker hides seem to have withstood the test of time.....except the spiewaks.
