Never read or saw that before. What a lonely and exposed position . That would be worse than the ball turret I think. You’d be in there for the whole flight 8-10 hours some times. Can’t move around or stretch out. Oh hell just shoot me!

odd that they would want to consider this in 1949 already knowing the vulnerability of certain areas. this guy would be the first to go. and so many planes had rough landings so if you survived the mission your chances of surviving the landing were probably even worse. can't believe that design even made it off the drawing board.
