Fleabay chancer trying to sell a damaged jacket

Bought an Aero Highwayman at what seemed a great price. There were only 2 photos without much detail but the jacket was described as "perfect condition". Jacket arrives and lo and behold, there is damage to the leather of the arms. Not sure what the guy had done to it but needless to say it is going back.

Wow. Did he get in a fight with Wolverine? I have had jackets damaged by heavy handed customs agents, so if this was imported, that may be a possibility.

There is broken in, and just plain broken. This one is the later!

Well Fleebay like you say have an effective buyer protection plan that did work well for me in the past. Canada Post lost an original M422 in superb shape..... yeah yikes and fuck... If its related to transport, your box should be pretty well beaten up too.

Good luck!

You can't always tell from the box. In my case it was an original mint shearling M-445. I carefully packed it to avoid damage. The customs agent unpacked it and then crammed it back in the box haphazardly. This resulted in several tears and holes in the jacket. The box was perfect, the rare jacket inside was ruined.
Asshole with no respect for history!

Shit, yeah never thought of that, the content actually been mishandled to that extent, interesting anecdote!

Yes the USN WWII shearlings are notoriously fragile. Carelessly cramming it into a box is enough to open up holes in the leather. The guy sent me pics of how it was re-packed.

So we have a mint WWII USN M445a jacket that survived 80 years, being destroyed in UK customs in a day, by some idiot who didn't care.

This was years ago but still puts me into a rage. An absolute travesty!

An aside, but purchased an old Casio G Shock from eBay that fell apart literally when I put it on my wrist. Informed vendor who accused me of being a scammer and wouldn’t be refunding. I said fine I’ll let eBay decide, vendor reported me as a scammer (this was a $30 watch) to eBay who then agreed me a refund :)

Great news! I hate scammers. Fingers crossed ebay do the same in this case.

That’s a shame. Nice jacket apart from the damage. I’m intrigued to know what did that. Hope things go well for you.

Yes, the pattern has me wondering what could have done it, especially as they appear to be very similar on both sides.
I am quite gutted really. Nice jacket that fits me well and in the Teacore colour which I really like.
Almost has me wondering about a repair..

Don’t do it .. by the time it’s repaired to look wearable , you’ll have more money invested in it than if you bought a new one . Send it back and cut your losses now.

Seller now wants me to contact him outside of ebay via mobile to resolve. Not falling for that one. Even more sure he is a scammer now.
I was watching this Aero Highwayman listed on eBay but although the price seemed reasonable I was put off by it having just two quite poor photos and a very limited description. Having said that listings such as these can sometimes lead to a right bargain.
Anyway, I’d be very surprised if eBay doesn’t get you your money back as they almost always side with the buyer, however would strongly recommend you only contact the seller via eBay messaging.
If necessary an eBay agent can then access the entire conversation between you and the seller to see exactly what the situation is before making a judgement on the sale.
In my experience it would also be worth you speaking with an agent on the phone to explain the issue as this is much easier and I’ve generally found them to be quite helpful.

The last two pics you posted are the ones on his listing. It's a bit hard to see where exactly the damage is since it doesn't show on those two pictures which seem to cover most of the sleeves. He seems to have good F/B if not much of it as a seller.

Just start case for a return from your purchases list. Put reason for return not as described and put some photos on it. The seller will send you a label to print off or to take to the post office on your phone where they will print it. If he doesn't send it in a couple of days eBay will. You will get your money back because they always take the buyer's side even when the buyer is in the wrong.

Is it worth bunging Aero a quick email to see if it’s fixable and how much? Depending on how much you paid, as I say, it’s a nice jacket except for the damage. Perhaps even get a reduction?
