Nice looking jacket Walt but I'm with you regarding the hide, it is a little "too" grainy in places but I'm sure that will balance out when the rest of the jacket catches up with those areas. The packing is a wee bit disappointing too but Shawn is never far away from these posts so I'm sure he'll take your comments on board. Everything else looks great tho and I think the knits work well with the Seal hide. I'm guessing the hide is chrome tanned? I see on their website that they do a semi aniline goat in russet and I'm wondering if they do the same in Seal? All up tho, and like you say, its a lot of jacket for your 250 quid and to 90% of the population it probably looks no different to the Aeros, Eastmans and BKs.of the world.

regards

Garry

Hi Garry,

I don't know if you've pulled the trigger yet or not on the Fivestar A2 but I just thought I'd let you know that after my slight disappointment with the horsehide jacket I've purchased another in the 1mm seal goatskin and I've got to say it's absolutely bloody fantastic.

Fantabulous jacket, I love the character of the leather.
I have fivestar making a motorcycle jacket for me out
Of heavy goat and I asked for leather from the ugliest
Nastiest unloved hoodlum goats
The pandemic has of course temporarily stopped.

Hi Walt,

I've ordered the Doniger in goat partly because of your experience with the HH and partly because Shawn has has a lot of assistance from here with the design. Your HH is still an nice looking jacket but not what I associate with HH.

Any chance of a couple of shots of your goat Werber, there's not to many on here.

regards

Garry

BDM, I'd be interested to see your "Thug Goat" jacket when it arrives. Shawn has a few models that appeal to me and I'd like to see how a number of his jackets come out.

Here is a picture of a jacket made of the heavy goat leather. A trucker jacket made of the same leather in russet is still coming.

Cranking jacket Mr Proper. I imagine with it being goat it will be pretty supple regardless of the weight? I’m trying to work out the colour of this jacket, is it an aged black??

The colour is a very dark seal brown. I like this almost black, but not entirely black very good.
I will try to take a photo that shows the colour more clearly.
The weight is almost 2 kg.
In terms of stiffness, it is a bit softer than my HH jackets, but still firmer than my cow or lamb. It is soft but not lumpy. That's why I ordered another jacket made from this leather.

It looks magnificent mate. Is your Fivestar vest made From the same hide.
no, the vest is made of Capeskin (soft lamb leather). that is softer and thinner and much lighter than the goat. Good as a vest, it would be too thin for a jacket (for me). The seal brown of the vest is lighter than that of the jacket.

@Flash Badger I asked Shawn at fivestar for the ‘thug” goat in motorcycle grade/thickness
As I wanted to match as close as possible the look of what I sent him, in the pic you
Can see it’s mismatched leather with character

unfortunately my camera does not exactly match the color. but maybe it helps a little to get an impression.

Thanks for that Mr P. My Doniger gets here in the next week so if I'm happy with that then my next 5* order is going to be in this hide. I'm thinking of their Luftwaffe jacket with the fur collar as I want something a wee bit different from the A2's and G1's I'm usually drawn to. I also like the look of that waistcoat you had made and might ask for something similar.

Quite a controversial design in my opinion, although the client is always right, and since someone ordered this, she probably wanted exactly that.
My daughter wants a regular A2, but just in her size, as WASP women wore during WW2.
This fitted A2 looks rather strange.

But if that’s what was ordered then so be it.

From my experience fitting bicycles, female bodies "typically" have short torsos and long legs. This example looks like it would wear like a short dress.

But if this was made to a specific size order, it is what it is.

Hopefully we will be able to see some images of how it actually fits on the person who ordered it.

Yeah, I think this women’s A-2 jacket messes with the formula much more than it needs to. Of course, if that’s what the customer wants, it’s what the customer wants. But going forward, I’d say just develop a women’s size chart for the A-2 jacket: same basic fit and proportions, just smaller sizes and significantly shorter. @JimO is right about the length issue. My wife can find an A-2 jacket that would fit her in terms of pit-to-pit, but the arms would be bunching up something crazy.

@Nnatalie, would you like to comment on this offering? ;)

IIRC, @Thomas Koehle had ordered a custom Five Star A-2 for his wife.

The fit pics showed a short torso fit with the pockets filling the majority of the front of the jacket.
