Shawn and I have something new cooking that isn’t reproduced ANYWHERE else. Ever since I first got a B-3 jacket, I’ve wanted a pair of the shearling-lined A-9 mittens that went with the jacket. But nobody makes them!
So I managed to find a gorgeous, practically pristine pair made by Perry. I was a little nervous sending them halfway around the world - I mean, who KNOWS what could happen along the way! But Shawn just told me they arrived and sent along a picture this morning. So folks who want to will soon be able to buy a pair of these:

Well done jan The mittens look terrible! Some people on FB complain about pakistanese made stuff but Shawn and his 5star team are very helpfull and they make custom work on demand!

Let me qualify that last statement … optimistic that the USPS would ever get the gloves to Shawn .That was a kind and an Optimistic thing to do .

Nice trip! Are you looking to actually wear them with your shearling?
And its also nice to see the actual color of the leather in pristine state. I am surprise how the color is more a deep chocolate brown rather then the very dark brown almost black we often see on Japanese B-6-D-1 etc...

Yep, once I’ve got a repro pair from Shawn I’m planning to wear them with a B-3. They should stand up to Michigan winters well.
Yeah, this is a relatively early one, made around 1941-42. I believe Eastman has a pair in the same color that they use on their B-17 gunner mannequin from the poster included in their catalog. The color pairs well with the mixed batch original B-3:

Okay, so with shearling a before and after (date/time frame) has to be taken in account with color?
Makes sense as I see some original dark brown (stout) color D-1 but never seen the mid brown available with repros, D-1 and B-6 by the way. Not really looking at B-3 at the moment. Just having fun comparing repros with their originals.

Yeah it seems like sometime around 1941 they decided they wanted a darker color outside for their shearing jackets, and the acrylic-sprayed shearling started being delivered to the factories mid-order, which is why we have the mixed batch jackets. The outer shell of the A-9 mittens is pigskin though, not just the back side of the shearling, so I think they stayed russet a little while longer, just like the A-2 jackets did.

Everybody else would make a market research first and scrap the project due to an unfavourable cost/profit analysis...Shawn just says: "We will do it, just because I want to offer every single part of the Class 13 Catalogue!"

Yes I totally agree. What Shawn is doing is really awesome. He doesn't gain much economically (maybe even loses in the short term) but it's the kind of attention that matters a lot to our community.
Thanks also to those who lend original clothes, like Jan and many others, and who take risks (sending a package is always risky) to allow Shawn to make the most accurate copies possible.

At least he's decent sending stuff, I know guys in reenactment groups did that and never saw it again
