I’ve been told that the belt buckle on the 5* Irvin is too shiny (chrome) for an original. Today I just read that such an observation isn’t entirely true. A shiny chrome buckle was used originally, but it wasn’t used on my 4 panel version. In fact, it was used only on the prewar Links Irvin jackets and is a distinguishing feature of that make (I wonder if Shawn had one to work with). So, while it’s not correct for my jacket as newly issued, it’s plausible that the buckle could’ve been taken from a trashed prewar Links jacket at an RAF station, to fix a good 4 panel jacket belt. I haven’t hit the buckle with steel wool as I planned to, and I’m glad I didn’t. One less thing for me to screw up….
