Here is first jacket purchased in 1980.

It is the A-2 horsehide "MacArthur" edition.
The "painting was done several years later by me.
This is first time that I have posted a photo on a forum. I will be posting
more photos when I receive my A-1 jacket from GoodWear. On that
jacket…you can be sure..I won't be painting any images.
A big Thank You to Scott for helping me to learn how to post photos
on the forum !

Looks nice Jake. Good paint; looks vintage. Is it an Avirex? I recall those...
You are correct ! This was a limited edition "MacArthur" A-2 in horsehide . I believe I
paid about $300 back in early 1980's. That was a lot for me in those days.[img

From the pattern it appears to be based on MacArthur's no name Cable AC27753, which he wore in the Korean War.

General MacArthur

It is my understanding that the Avirex A-2s produced from the earlier time
period were of a quality & specs closer to the originals.

The above comment below Gen. MacArthur photo is my opinion & not
intended to portray this as being from the General…sorry !

This is a link to MacArthur's Roughwear A2, not to his Cable. There has been lots of discussion about his size 44 RW on various forums over the last two years. His Cable was stolen some years back.

Nah -- it was just Avirex's standard A-2 pattern in "rare" horsehide (their emphasis from back when). I have my brother's old one from about the same time -- hasn't worn as well as 2Jakes'.

That very well may be !
Over the years , I have had occasion to view Avirex A-2's from back
then. All were in different grades of quality. Similar now , would be ,
for example, Ralph Lauren which caters to Macy's & also to JC Penny's
but under another label , the quality…you decide !
Remember the original "Banana Republic" & their fine products
from back then ?

That RIA auction was interesting to see. Is that the jacket that was stolen many years ago from the MacArthur Memorial in downtown Norfolk, VA? Anybody know how much it sold for? Jeffro
