Super pics, looks like Carl Spaatz has some collar insignia attached to the collar knit. I really appreciate quirky departures from dress standards...I suppose there would have been few who would have commented on it, with a few who may have imitated it....

Thanks for putting them up! Looks like a nice SAT A-2 in there too... ;)

Talking about the fourth pic in the series? Looks more like he has his shirt collar sticking out from the buttoned-up collar of his A-1.

And Cadet George looks like he's beatin' the crap outta his knit cuffs! Wonder how..?

Agree about the wool shirt collar. The A-1 collar is buttoned though and you don't see that very often.
These are some great shots! Proving more and more, the hides today just aren't what they were.
Thanks for posting.

No, you don't -- must'a been cold.

These images are so "vintage" (ancient?) you have to wonder if anything is tanned the same. And aren't those A-1s Capeskin? Not much of that goin' around anymore.

Brilliant!
Is that a SAT in the first image? I see Couchy got there first with those pocket flaps, you old dog! ;)

It certainly is a SAT A2 with its buttoned pockets.

The button holes are certainly a time consuming feature that set the SAT contract apart from others; however, the big draw card for me is that full colour (color) label!! And of course GW are the only guys (guy) doing them the right way. BR did an SAT but not the right way...Maybe next year... I would not think there are many out there, but the new 36 Werber is an amazing jacket 'irregardless' of the hide adding to the mix...

Wish I had the brass neck to wear the A-1 with the flared jodhpurs and riding boots - the best look for the jacket IMO (the proportions work so much better than long trousers).

I just landed on a Limited Edition Cockpit vintage goatskin A2 with those button pockets!! It's a tight WW2 fit, beautiful goatskin in seal brown, will post photos. Cockpit did really well in this jacket, the lining is accurate, and the collar snap male ball is wrapped in the lining. They never do that!

It's an acronym for the first A-2 contract (SAT = Security Aviation Togs). It's also illustrated in the Eastman and Art of the Flight Jacket books).
As you can see - boxy design (bigger torso), narrow sleeves, pale leather/knits, buttoned pockets.
Small production run - very rare.
