Hello, what went wrong with your decal at first place? Did you use classic heat process transfer or simpler heat and water transfer? This new paint job looks fantastic.
Heat and water but the middle just didn’t stick but the outsides were stuck on so well you had to rub the decal off which started to take sole of the leather colour off. I decided to stop right there

sory to hear that, as i said paint job looks fantastic although some of the forum members say that if you want to remove the paint job somewhere in the future you get stuck with so called "ghost print" of the previous artwork/decal. Dunno, i myself would rather opt for a decal option first, actually i'm looking to buy one set from MASH for my recently acquired A2.

Yes well aware of that but my plan is to wear it until I die haha. I guess with the shoulder patch it’s not such a big personal thing to have on there really. I ordered the decals from MASH too just take your time with them, probably my fault so I can deal with the consequences.

Finally the sun has made an appearance in the UK and warm enough for the Rough Wear again. Why I ever thought about selling this is beyond me!

I guess I'll have to be the Simon Cowell here! The reason you had doubts about this jacket- and the reason I do- is that instinctively you can see that it's "off". You think it's because it's because it's a bit too small- or the back is short or whatever- but what it really is is that Eastman RW collar is just a tad to big and conical- proportionally it's too large for this jacket. The Eastman Rough Wear pattern is just "off" I hate to say- and no amount of wearing and fussing is going to change what your eye and brain can instinctively see when you catch your own image in a shop window or mirror...

I know I seem mean but believe me you'll thank me when you finally get a jacket that's right. I've been down this road many times. My best suggestion to you is to put the jacket away for a few months and then come back to it- if it still looks OK then then I'm wrong.

I take it on board and yes that was my first thought when I got it out the box along with the other things I mentioned. I was also a few pounds heavier back then so it fits much better now.

5 months in and I am at peace with the big collar which has worn in and isn’t so in your face and sharp, sometimes you just get used to things too.

No hard feelings from me at all I appreciate the feedback, it’s not like you told me to f*** off for no reason even then I don’t think that would bother me haha!

Thanks. It sounds to me like you've already done what I suggested in a way- you're at peace. In that case you're great- and the fit of the jacket is perfect!

I think sending it off for a few weeks having the roundel painted on is what did it for me, once I got the jacket back I was like this is nice jacket really.

Thanks for the kind words!
i had exactly the same experience (almost) with a jacket I owned. The collar and believe it or not the pocket flaps had always bugged me. I gave it to my son to wear and he wore it without babying it for a couple of years. After another jacket crisis (I have a lot of those 'cause I'm crazy:D) I took back the jacket from my son and it's now my daily wearer- I love it. All its past sins were forgotten and forgiven- what bothered me before just didn't seem to be a thing!

Funny how we can latch onto certain things that others don’t even see…and then you spend ages overthinking it only for it to not exist as you say!

Can’t say I’ve ever had this issue with clothing before but this was a bit of a style change up for me. Glad I’m not entirely on my own.

I find the look and feel of the A-2 collar isn't just with the maker or contract but may also lay with the texture of the leather.
It is a very smooth grain on the collar I will say. The jacket is a good mix overall though with different grains all over which I quite like!

I think another big thing I overcame is it’s not 1942 and nothing will ever (well very close in some cases) be exactly the same as an original other than an original jacket…. Once the penny dropped and I took it for what it is, a well made sturdy well fitting A-2 repro my mind shut up some more.

Call it a gift or a curse Jeff, however you along with some of the others here have such an eye for detail which I guess in part is what helps these repro’s get better made for the majority of us here
I am not bashing any maker here, for me I just can’t tame the RW collar, this based on the 27752 as the only repro contract I’ve had as a repro…I know from emailing John the size of the collar can be smaller or slightly bigger within originals found, however for me I’ve never got them to sit right
I have certainly sold a stunning Shinki leather RW to a member here and straight away the collar seems to “work” for them, maybe it’s my body shape?
The painted on decal does look nice on your RW and is something I am considering doing, I’ve started following your painter on Instagram, well worth a look at UK folks
