Was trying to finish my metal roof project at the end of the day. Lost my footing and slid 2 stories, after gaining good velocity I was hurled onto my concrete patio. I am lucky to be alive. I have 3 broken metatarsals in my right foot. Was lucky I had moved the table saw and other tools away from that area that day. Tried to do an Airborne roll. Besides my foot being broken I had no other injuries. The rest of the fall was was pretty good. Now I'm Out of commission for a while, Can't drive.
I had no fear up there, didn't feel scared at all and that's the poison that got me. Learn from my mistake and use a safety harness.

near misses.

Hope the recovery is swift and your foot mends well...

ouch! Airborne rolls don't work all the time. I saw a number of guys get hurt when I was jumping. Get well soon. I like the comment on flying yankee.

Aye Mate, Thanks for the kind words.
Worse yet I was undressed by two old nurses at the hospital.

These white angels need a bonus from time to time too!!

I always said it would take a hell of a woman to make me stray, or two really crappy ones... ;)

I think the beer idea is a good one, til you need a leak.. Or you fall asleep with a few put away
and you wake up thinking you are all in one piece (or only 206 pieces)... Good luck with it..

Considering the speed with which I hit the concrete I think my training helped quite a bit, the ER just couldn't believe I had no ankle, back, rib or head injury.

Ouch. Good job avoiding any more damage than what you have. A friend of the family wasn't so lucky, also on the roof, fell through a skylight opening. He held on for a few days but sadly he didn't make it.

Why is it always the right side I wonder? You're lucky to be essentially unbroken condition after a fall like that.

This is how I spent the first 3 months of this year after I busted my leg in the rescue boat. My Wife was totally unimpressed but I still managed to drive whith the boot on but needing your hands to hold crutches you soon begin to realize how tough life can be for permanently disabled folk.

The biggest bummer for me was that the break caused a DVT in my calf which requires me to wear a fashionable pressure sock for another 3/4 of a year. In case no one mentions it just watch you don't put too much pressure on the back of your calf as you elevate the foot. Aparently it's a pretty pretty common problem but the treatment is a real pain in the ass.

What is a DVT? Yes I do realize now how tough life is for permanently disabled folk. Good thing is I should be fully functioning again in six months. I have been an avid weightlifter since I was 16 so I will get really out of shape.Gonna be a long road back.

A DVT is a deep vein thrombosis, commonly called a blood clot, and can block a length of major veins. Below the knee is ok but the worry is that a bit'll break off and travel to your lungs where it'll really mess you up. If you notice your calf feeing swollen, hot or like its cramping get yourself to the doc ASAP so they can whip off the cast and get it ultra sounded.

I was worried I was going to turn into a slug when this happened too since you basically can't excercise but I surprisingly lost 4 kilos. Breaking your leg is the best weight loss programme I know!

Best of luck with the recovery...

I agree, why is it always the right leg.......when I was nineteen and kindly motorist decided to drive into me whilst I was riding my motorbike which caused a compound fracture of the right tib & fib resulting with the bone sticking out of the skin which wasn't pleasent.

To add to that I broke my left wrist also and having it placed into a cast from my hand to above my elbow didn't help whilst on crutches, so all in all I had two weeks in hospital, seven stiches in my leg to sew up the gash that the bone made, left arm (3 months) and right leg in casts (from my toes to my groin) for six months then a further three months wearing a leg brace and limp for a following three years.

So pretty messed up and the kicker was that I was going through my Police recruitment process at the time which I had nearly completed but has to pull out because of the injury but I did get a rather large pay-out in the end which when on a deposit for a house so there was an up-side :)

But yeh, speedy recovery and take it easy.
