Can't even drink a beer!

Hi Guys;

Just acquired a new Aero 42-15142-P. It's a beautiful horsehide with a deep maroon or mahogany color that I guess is supposed to be a seal color. It was listed on ebay as an Aero Oil Pulled Horsehide. It's almost factory new. Now my question is; the jacket fits perfect, trim like it should, but the sleeves are so tight that I can just about bend my arms at the ebows and I'm afraid that I'm going to bust through the elbow seams. Will they loosen up in time or do I need to do something?

Thanks for your help!

Burt,
You must force yourself to drink those beers. By constantly bending the arms at the elbows, both arms mind you, I can assure you that horsehide will loosen up and become more pliable. It's going to require slamming down many beers to achieve this level of suppleness but you'll have a great time breakin' it in.

Try soaking the sleeves in hot water for about 20 minutes while wearing the jacket. Gently flex your arms while stretching the leather with your hands. after that, stuff the sleeves with anything you can find until they are like tubes and leave it for a few days. This should help. The process can be repeated but be careful not to rip the stitching.

I think you'll be fine after a week or two of wear, and tight fitting sleeves are a good thing.

With any new A-2 it's like wearing a suitcase at first, but it soon comes right. ;)

I often have the same problem. I have 8.5 inch wrists and thick forearms. Makes jacket sleeves an issue sometimes. Especially on tapered sleeves as when you ben your arm they ride up but can't as they snag on my forearms.

And no jokes on how I got those thick arms please !! :lol: It was years of working away from home :lol: :lol:
