Can we temporarily stop registrations?

According to Nathan, we already have a Captcha system in place (yeah - I totally forgot about that too), but he’s going to dial up the difficulty on it. a few will still undoubtedly get through, but that should help.

Sadly it does not appear to be helping Jan as I have just reported yet another spam post. IIRC my second such report today.

Yeah, I've been zapping 'em as soon as I see them, but it doesn't seem to be having much effect. I wish there were some better way than Captcha to prove that a new member isn't a bot, but I don't know of one. :(

See my post. Some Captcha are quite difficult.
Example how many motorbikes are in these images ?

Some Facebook groups ask questions about you before joining

That could work - it would require a mod to evaluate the answers, and it wouldn't be bullet proof, but it could help. Trouble is, I don't know if it would be compatible with the VLJ's software. Worth asking Nathan though.

Captcha's aside as they are just one line of defence, it should also be possible to tweak the software settings via the Admin Control Panel but this does require a knowledge of the particular software or raising a ticket with the provider.

One way is to handle new registrations manually and checking each individually. But of course this is somewhat time consuming.
