That photo is from the press visit to 85 Sqn (as witnessed by the hexagon on the fuselage). Brigade allowed a visit for newspapers at this time due to slight reduction in activity on this part of the lines.

Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 single-seat fighter biplane (early production type). Serial number: A8910.

This SE is actually in the third block of the first production from the RAF factory. She was used by the first SE equipped unit, 56 and by Crowe, Barlow and Caunter. She scored one enemy aircraft out of control over Moorslede on 13th July 1917 (Barlow was the pilot). Struck off charge from squadron service on the 27th July 1917.

The canopy (glasshouse as it was referred to by 56 Sqn pilots) was removed before operational service.
