However , the normal spelling of the word is “VANTS”
Note : (Both versions obtained from Wikipedia as I am not a member of that ethnic group)

I always "used" the vontz spelling, but I'm not a tribe member either. I asked my wife if it was one she knew, but is only familiar with the usual terms like mashuga and verklempt.Maybe someone else here has more experience with Yiddish .
The similarities between German and Yiddish always surprised me -- except when I first saw all of the Schmuck stores in Germany and just laughed out loud.The german word for those guys is "Wanze" - sounds similar ...
