But strangely enough I see many USN in silver and also many USN in yellow??? Do you know the difference between them??
I’ve been thinking about the USN in yellow, a bit of color will pop on this jacket.
The yellow was "fluorescent" when originally painted......(my country's navy STILL uses the same paint dye on its safety equipment and it's mildly radioactive o_O)

And the silver would originally have been a pigment that had reflective particlesin the paint (like "safety tape" on life jackets/life preserver rings)

The white probably was the same thing

It's just something that stuck out to me (we were also issued watches with the same paint dye on its numerals and hands)
I know that it the silver and white would have originally been slightly gritty from the particles, which would have mostly rubbed off in the 70 or so years of usage

The Yellow fluorescent dye could have even been more of a lime colour when first applied, but then again it could have been closer to the shade of yellow it currently is

I can confirm the issue with the “gritty” silver. I have some NOS US Navy bibs in my collection and some deck-hats which are stencilled with silver and you can actually “feel” it is kind of rough on the surface …
