The L.L. Bean A-2 was the first "flight jacket" I owned, purchased probably in 1982? Yes, the pockets are funky, the collar stand is weird, but it is a great piece of apparel. Mine too, was the Thinsulate version, and it was totally water proof. I can still remember the advertisement in the catalog. Just a great jacket for what it was.

I think this is the only photo I have wearing the L.L. Bean A-2 This must have been around 1985, hanging out at the fraternity. Man, I miss those guys...

So …what ever happened to that first jacket ? My first one back in the early 1990s was an Avirex A2. That was one of the realistic repros available in the US at that time. I had never heard of ELC or Aero. I wore that jacket everyday and on several occasions slept in it . ( Stories better off left untold:rolleyes:) I’m sure I’ve told this part before . I took a girl out for a ride on the back of my HD and let her wear the jacket and when I dropped her off I forgot to get the jacket back . I never saw her or the jacket again:oops:. We should start a thread. “ Tell us about your very first flight jacket, and how it met it’s demise “
Sorry Johnny … not trying to hijack your thread .
