Here's what the Donald patch looks like oriented to the right (as in the unmodified logo).
I did this in Photoshop, so it doesn't physically exist AFAIK.

Was there any etiquette or superstition about which way a bird or plane should face on a jacket patch? So as not to "go west," perhaps?

That's a neat variation. As with all of those patches it appears different than the one in the original post pic.
I guess that should be a lesson not to be so anal about the details!
Thanks,
Dave
Hey dmar, as to the details , I enlarged the photo and "Donald" is sitting upright on the bird and his hands are stretched out in a different way the the NAA logo posted by Dave , there's quite a bit of difference in the two .

A note I've found about details over the years of making leather patches, many people who order them expect the closest to the "original" emblem 9 out of ten times , there are a few that are happy to get a "ballpark" looking emblem, I strive to get as close to an original in it's details/colors if at all possible , too bad that photo wasn't more of a head on shot and even better if it had been in color !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is an awesome emblem I'd love to see a better image of !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Johnny, Thanks for the tips. I guess what I meant is that there are many variations of originals - not that I would advocate being loose on a specific patch.

Here's my "stock" version:

Tough to get perfect lines with the grain and all. Once such a patch was worn in, it would likely be a non-issue.

Hey Great looking NAA patch , yeah, that's pretty much what I meant too, the variations, at times they can make you nutty trying to track them all down and thier ID's etc , I like finding them though seeing as I make the leather patches too, it's good to have them as a veteran may want one of the "variants" rather than the "Official" one .

Back in '90 I was on holiday in CA, did the touristy thing of visiting the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose at Long Beach and I bought from the shop an Avirex bowling style shirt - on the back it has emboidered Reno racers record times (Paul Mantz?? is a name that springs to mind) but embroidered on the front pocket is this very logo, bastardised to AAA!! Still got the shirt and very cool it is too, well I think so.

cheers
