Aero A2 quality check?

Hi all, I just received my A2 from Aero which I like the general fit/look of but had some concerns about the quality which I would like to get the opinions of you experienced folk here. On inspection I noticed quite a few cracks in the leather and areas where the top finish has come off, mostly close to where the stitching is. I emailed Aero about this and they've said that because the Jerky leather is a teacore leather with a lighter base, that it is just more obvious and that these cracks at stitching and joins/seams is normal. Is that accurate? To me the large crack on the shoulder in particular does not seem reasonable for a good quality brand new jacket? As for the teacore, I thought it was a more gradual worn in look with graduations of colour at areas of wear and would not look like the finish had been entirely scratched off when brand new nor that it make the stitching holes look so much more messy (and customer service also didn't mention any of this or even that it was a teacore leather when I was choosing leather type/colours etc). I also didn't think I saw any brand new jackets that looked like this in photos when I was doing my online research prior to ordering. Anyway, I'd be keen to know if you all think this is normal and expected quality for an Aero jacket and teacore leather and I'm just being too particular, or if I am right to be disappointed? Thanks in advance!

I would be upset if I received this jacket. It should not have passed quality control. The teacore excuse is malarkey.
Thank you! I didn't think it should have passed quality control but I've not had an Aero jacket nor teacore leather before. I could return it but with the cost of shipping both ways and duties/tax, it would be a lot of wasted money and I do actually like the general look and fit of the jacket...(the shoulders are a little tight when crossing arms but that seems normal for this style and I'm expecting will relax once worn in)

To my eye, a couple of the later photos look like they might be teacore, but the early ones really are just QC failures.
Thank you! I'm assuming one of those would be the large crack on the shoulder? Would you be able to comment on which of the other ones you think are QC failures? (I'm thinking once I get more opinions I will email them back and try to argue my case for a replacement or at least a partial refund...) Thanks!

Without seeing more photos I’ll reserve judgement on any possible QC issues, although would say that after just one or two wears the jacket will probably naturally pick up other more similar marks. However, Jerky Horsehide is clearly described as being ‘Teacore’ in the ‘Our Leathers’ guide on the Aero website.

That's fair. I didn't mean that they hid it, just that in my quite extensive discussion with customer service in picking model/size/leather/etc. I'm surprised they didn't mention this considering it apparently changes the appearance so much in this way. Having never had teacore leather before, I didn't know to expect this as an issue and would have chosen another leather type if I knew it was a possibility. Having said that, I'm willing to accept that some of the wear is related to the teacore leather and unavoidable/acceptable, but the size of some of the cracks at the stitching is what I feel isn't at the quality standard I would have expected.

Thanks everyone for your input! It's been very helpful for me. What I'm taking away from most of the replies is that the areas where the finish is worn away is ok but the degree of cracking of the leather (especially the big shoulder one) is not what most of you would consider normal and acceptable from a company like Aero, is that right?

Correct. The cracks/splits are from poor construction - needle blow out and over stressed seams.
Teacore is simply a dark leather finish that wears through to lighter shade. This is simply a top coat wearing through to a base coat.
Teacore does not entail the structure of the leather/hide breaking up. The fibre structure of the leather should not be visible.
There has been pictures of this before on the forum - I seem to remember someone with a jacket that had cracked open around the pocket seams.

The blunt or oversized needle has ripped rather than pierced.
This has also caused further splits along the seams - especially at the shoulder where the epaulette is folded. They can't argue with a closeup like this.

Never saw a finish like that or stitching on my A2 that Edith made me many years ago.I wouldn't have accepted it.
I remember going through to pick up a long halfbelt and a highwayman, I wore the highwayman away and Wills son roughly squashed the lhb into a carrier bag ,no sign of trying to fold it neatly. I nearly choked him, said I've just fkn spent hundreds of pounds on that treat it and me with fkn respect. A couple of the workers had a good laugh at him getting put in his place,Will said it will pick up marks along the way,,he was promptly told same as his son.i never went back to Aero while he was still there.Denny and Ken were always great, also Holly,I couldn't take to Amanda.

Thanks so much! I've just emailed Aero again, including those close ups and some of the things you pointed out which was very helpful.

Interesting, you'd think they would want to treat their own products with care. Would have been nice to be able to go in person to do quality check and fit, etc. but alas I'm quite far away in Australia...
