I recently bought a jacket from a seller in the US. It was a bargain.
The seller did not send me a total including shipping, he wants me to pay for the jacket, then pay for shipping once it has been posted.
As I say the jacket was a bargain, my concern is that he wants to recoup his poor sale by a swinging postage coat.
Any recommendations ?

or undertake to pay the postage once you recieve it and pay it to the penny, or ask to see a scan of the proof of posting.. allude to your feedback score.

or..

ask for the weight of the package and check USPS rate. once you have done that advise him of your findings and your preferred postage method and pay that.

Yep, ask him to get a shipping quote and let you know before sending. If he's a nervous first-time overseas poster, he could be worried that he'll be up for paying 'hidden' Customs lodgement fees or some other imagined cost over and above the required postage. I don't usually get too upset if they charge a little over the actual postage rate, figuring that a few dollars is worth their time to get to the post office and fill out the little customs sticker... but any more than say 10-15% over the actual postage gets me miffed.
However if in further communication you find he's trying to artificially inflate his profits, then play dumb and use the line 'how am I supposed to pay for something if I don't know what the total cost is going to be?'. In the eyes of ebay this initial argument will seem perfectly reasonable for you to take should things go sour.

I don't think you have a problem, John ..... his feedback as a seller, although not recent, is all good.

I agree with David. Ebay has so screwed sellers in favour of the buyer that you have nothing to fear except fear itself :D

Ah, David you sussed out my small profit making venture on a very cheap RL Anj-4.
I asked him why he wanted me to pay in this way, and he has now said one payment will be OK.
So panic over.
Thanks for the help.

I'm glad it worked out, and sorry if I said too much.

If you decide to offer it on the forum .... I won't say another word. ;)

G'day...

Was the jacket from maeweed? I hit him up about bidding on this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... AQ:US:1123

He said that shipping would be US$120 for the best insured, registered method. I chose not to bid, and the jacket
fetched $260.00..

Do you have a total yet. IF you pay in part payments you are not covered by Buyer Protection!! Read this when
the you beaut RM Perry to France did not surface. He paid a second payment for the registered(thank god for me, as
it provided seller protection after a four month wait).

John's was from a different seller ... (good thing I'm not saying another word).

That Real McCoy's of Australia was a great deal, but it wouldn't have fitted you. ;)

Real McCoys of Australia ?
The purchase has become slightly tiresome now. The postage rate was reasonable, and I paid through the ebay PP checkout, but received a message asking why hadn't I paid yet ? from the seller. The reason I later found out was that the sellers e-mail was no longer linked to that PP account....
I have had to cancel the payment and wait 10 days for it to be credited with my bank. The seller blames me as he had mentioned earlier that payment was to be sent to a particular e-mail address. Of course this would had rendered PP protection void. So now he must invoice me again quoting his ID and item number.
He now asks ' do you want to cancel the purchase ?'....

roughly translated it means 'for goodness sake!' how difficult can people be?
I had a bidder persuade me against my better judgement to pull my buzz lion stating that he could not use my paypal as it was immediate payment required and he would like to pay me sept 5th. On 3rd he asked.. aok? On 4th he said he couldnt pay til 8th. after 8th nada no replies to emails. Still nothing. It is relisted now. What did he get from that?

your seller sounds like just his type.
