I wish we could convince him to return to the community, either as a vendor or a member. Seems like he’s a good guy.

Wish we could Jan.

Before your time here, but he got right, royally fucked over by some senior members here. Those involved should have had the guts and strength of character to apologise to him.

They didn't which was bloody bad form and Jon was never seen again. They really fucked him and it deserved an apology from those who did it.

Is anyone still in contact with Jon Wainwright?
I wonder what he’s doing today ?
Sincerely wish that he had a desire to go back into building Irvin’s. I would most certainly be a customer for one .

For all the heat on that old perfect repro thread I don't think it had much bearing on his business. I wasn't here then but I was still active on TFL at that time and it went on there as well.

He was last here in 2016 and was winding down - but I found a later post on the FL where he gives the reason he was giving up jacket making.

Ken told me a while ago that he still had the fleeces that were intended for the project. They were so coarse and scratchy he could never think of a use for them. I suggested selling them as rugs to recoup some of the outlays.
We did only just recently manage to move them on ( at a bargin price) , they were pretty awful to be fair , dry brittle leather side, fleece was pretty rough and matted. They really weren't fit for purpose. Even for use as a rug they would have needed some work.

Jon was buying hides from Fenland, I bought some at the same time for an individual Irvin project. I also sourced the zips for him from Lewis Leathers. When Fenland closed I think trying to find another tannery was not possible.
No one wants to sell small quantities.
Are these the zips that LL use for something then? I know they always used Lightenings in the now distant past. So did they commission some repros for their jackets? The last time I handled one of them was back in the eighties when they were in Great Portland street.

It was some time ago but I met Derek at the shop in London, he showed me around the archive.
At the time LL were planning an Irvin repro but it never materialised. They had some Flash zips made for the project. Eastman had made a batch of Irvin's for them with the Aviakit label some years previously.
I bought several sets for a project that petered out (as usual)
