A bunch of vintage (some leather) jackets

Fantastic collection! Thanks for sharing. There are several patterns I've never seen before, and my curiosity is definitely piqued!

I'm particularly interested in the D-2. Less aesthetically pleasing than a D-1 perhaps, but slightly more practical for a mechanic (fur hood excepted). That said, I'm beginning to suspect that whoever designed USAAF mechanics jackets didn't know much about either aircraft or mechanics.

What kind of lining does the D-2 have? Alpaca?

Thanks guys, pleased you’re enjoying it. This kit is not meant to be hidden away in a collection that no one sees, so really happy to share it with the forum.

@MediumMech The D-2 smock is an interesting thing. The alpaca liner and fur trim hood is actually separate and snaps into the outer smock. I can only assume that was done to allow the liner to be removed in warmer weather, because with the liner it’s incredibly warm. The B-2 trousers that go with this are the same: separate alpaca trouser liner.

These D-2 smocks are pretty rare now, so it’s something I’m pleased to have in the collection, but it’s also something I intend to wear when it’s cold enough.

Congrats for all your jackets, very nice! impressive!
Love the blue nylon AF jackets…
In Asia for / if original B-15C and L-2A, if wearable and in a larger than 42” size they fetch more than any A-2 ( non-ID’ed) in the same size and condition…
In Japan, the market for these originals has totally dried out… hence the demand and price!…

Gosh that's an amazing collection. Until I saw all of those jackets, I was clueless that so many different types of flight jackets existed. Thank you for the display and information. Of course for a geezer who forgot why he was standing at the sink with an empty pot this morning, I'm not sure how ling I'll retain it.

Fantastic collection. Looks like you are into nylon (who isn't). I love those early 50s jackets. I saw that M-422A not long ago. Was it purchased recently?
