A bunch of vintage (some leather) jackets

Hey all,

Re. Burt’s thread on the vintage aspect of this forum, here’s my attempt at restoring some balance. All vintage, some leather, jackets:

(Excuse some of the pics being a bit crappy, not sat down and edited them all yet):

Awesome jackets, @917_k. And, pursuant to my comment on Burt's thread, I'm going to try to say something besides "nice jackets" - I don't recognize the brand Oldin-Dennis. Is that B-10 a military contract or a private purchase jacket?

Re. the B-10: I believe Oldin-Dennis is one of the less common B-10 makers, but they definitely made issue jackets. This one is a little salty and needs a new collar and a bit of work doing. The USAAF markings are faintly visible on the right sleeve.

Great looking jackets 917 and thanks for posting them . Love the Pritzkers and the USAAF D2 Smock . That’s a rare bird . Is there a history with that one . It’s one I’d like to learn more about . Thanks

Thanks Burt!

The D-2 came from a fellow forum member, Carl. They were intended for ground crew and replaced the leather D-1, but beyond that I’m not sure the history of it. I’ve actually got a matching pair of B-2 trousers for this, that like the smock have a removable liner. I can’t wait for winter and the chance to wear the smock out, it’s a lovely bit of kit and super warm.

Wonderful collection, mate. Some damn fine B15s in there.
I think we know your favourite type of jacket ;)
What's the history behind this one? Super weird and unique!
14th USASA Fighter Squadron? HQS PLAT?
62-63 probably a cruise date?

Cheers mate! The B-15 just has it all, love it!!!

Re. the G-1, I must admit I’m a bit stumped by it. The patch seems to be 14th Army Security Agency Field Station, Hakata Japan. I need to do some more research into it.

Oldin-Denis had one 1944 contract for both the B-10 and A-9 pants. I've seen several OD examples over the years so not sure they're so uncommon.
Interestingly, Rough Wear, Stagg and LSL had two B-10 contracts, all the others had one.

Thanks Grant, that’s helpful. I can’t wait to get this fixed up, it’s a nice jacket.

Yeah, I was going to ask if you had plans to replace the collar, clean it, etc. I know some people want the jacket preserved "exactly as it was," but I'm all for maintenance, if it extends the life of the jacket. I don't much care about the Ship of Theseus problem. :D

Yeah, I’m going to have it repaired. I can probably live with the knits, despite then being a little ratty, but the collar is totally rotten. I like to be able to wear any of the jackets I own, so whilst originality is important, so is wearability.

Always nice to see an AL-1. You very seldom hear about them, in fact I don’t remember seeing a discussion about them in nearly 25 years of frequenting jacket forums. I guess it doesn’t really look like a flight jacket. I would imagine they’re pretty warm.

It’s an interesting jacket the AL-1, kinda like an A-2 deck jacket but better and more functional. It’s alpaca lined, so very warm. The slash pockets on the chest are lined with storm cuffs, which is pretty neat. There’s not too many photos out there of these worn in period either:

Here’s a couple more to keep y’all happy:

I love early US Air Force kit, from the transitional era of the late 40s, through to the late 50s. The early olive green jackets such as the N-2, N-3, L-2 and B-15B are some of the nicest and rarest flight jackets, as they were only issued for a short period of time. The ‘A’ series blue jackets are a little more common, but becoming harder to find. Here are two examples from those early days: the N-2A and N-3A, and some matching N-4A gloves.

Can we do vintage trousers as well? Oh go on then. Here are the matching D-1A and F-1A trousers for the two jackets above (F-1 goes with the N-3, D-1 the N-2):

Great thread ! I’ve always liked these early series jackets and gear . As you mentioned it was only in service for a relatively short period of time and to find pieces like this, in this condition is pretty cool.
