Unlucky chap! I have to say I have bought many jackets and other items from the USA and everyone has reached me!

It's just a shame when sellers limit their pool of potential bidders, and accept a lower final price.

You have to wonder .... what happens if they have a bad experience with domestic shipping. :?

Frankly, I don't think any overseas buyer would want to risk purchasing from someone with such an "attitude", which I don't think has much reflection on reality. Sure, some countries have notoriously unreliable mail services, but is internal US mail really close to 100% guaranteed?

Some sellers don't want to deal with customs. Never understood this. It's not that hard. Just have do a little reading or ask the PO to walk you thru it.

There's also the controversy of declared value. I get a kick out of some sellers who have TOS that state something like, "I don't lie on customs forms. Don't ask me to declare items as gifts". IMO the average global citizen is already way overtaxed.

There's certainly no reason for a seller not to tick "gift" instead of "merchandise" though putting a low value on items can invalidate the insurance which with the way Paypal/eBay operates now is taking a risk as it's likely the seller not the buyer who will lose out if something gets lost or damaged. As for "dealing with customs", there's really nothing for the seller to do, unless you're shipping to somewhere like France which may require you to fill out an invoice in triplicate!

One way around this, depending on country, is to use 3rd party insurers such as upic. You need to be careful about excluded items but I think vintage clothing is ok.
