1911 2 Lt. Henry Harley "Hap" Arnold, U.S. Army Infantry officer, sits at the controls of a Wright Model B in which he took flying lessons. In 1912, Hap received orders to report for Aviation Service physical exam. Having passed it, Hap was granted a Military Aviator's Certificate in 1913 and as they say, the rest is history. He went on to command one of the greatest air armadas that ever took to the skies. (NARA, USAF, DTIC)
