This Dubow looks like it was stored in a Boneyard

Looks like it may have spent half a century in a garden shed or attic. That label looks almost pristine.

typical poorly slathered on "redye", which was actually a paint, same as on b-3s, done at a depot. when applied with a heavy hand, it cracked and peeled off almost immeadiately, often taking the top most layer of original hide with it. the remaining hide if soft all right, like nubuk, as it now has no tannery applied finish. this one is an extreme case, i would venture that the remaining hides have no more original oils in them and the hide cell structure is compromised, thus, bone dry, like boneyard dry.
