Pocket placement on a2 jackets

Hi guys I'm sure it's been discussed before so forgive my ignorance this is one for you learned gentlemen, anyway, my Japanese horsehide A2 jacket I like it great fit nice soft hide but I got to thinking how far from the zipper the pockets are almost near the side seams, after checking seems this was a occurrence ,looking at a original Spiewak & Sons a Perry and a J Dubow, shows you can learn something everyday eh well for me anyway

the only place I haven't seen pockets placed on an original a-2 is on the back.
