Ok, but what's the purpose of it, apart from being an identifying jacket?
Never seen pictures of the era with ground crew looking like that.
Could imagine this on a carrier.

I believe its sole purpose was to make it easier to see personnel working on the flight line. You've got to admit it's anything but subtle. :D

It's very rare to find one of these. I think LJmilitaria has one. The jacket was worn by the lead man that guides the aircraft into position on the runway/tarmac.

Jim is correct. They were meant to be worn by aircraft crew chiefs during marshaling of aircraft on the flight line. I used to have a photo of one in use on my computer, but cannot for the life of me find it now. :roll:
