IMHO, tailored.. it was too big or large for someone… thus cut out in the back to make less wide… Furthermore it also looks quite short(ened).
The kints also look strange to me at least..

Has it got the USN perforation on the windflap? If it hasn’t, it’s a PX jacket. Made the same production line, but not for issue. I used to have one, also by Irvin B. The subject is covered in the ‘Better fighting garment’ thread.
Mikey is spot on . I had one as well. These were sold in the PXs and I’m pretty sure we had a couple of discussions about this some years ago . If you check the search function you’ll be able to see some additional info . Here just one thread on them .
Thanks to a heads-up from HHjackets, I've just nabbed this 1962 7823B Irvin B.Foster G-1 from the 'Bay. I'm especially pleased as I sold both my G-1's last year, my '63 Irvin B. and 50's L.W 7823(AER), and regretted it bitterly, and have been sniffing around for months for another one cheap...
