reeling from the lack of availability of the buzz deck zip today I thought I would cheer myself up by doing a 'william Gibson' job on my ralph lauren M41 style jacket. As it has a cotton lining, an M65 style zip and an ink motif on the back that I can frankly take or leave it seemed a prime candidate.
I decided when I saw the buzz rickson catalogue that a black M41 looked cool so after having thought about it on and off for quite some time, its in a bucket with 3 sachets of dylon velvet black and 750g of table salt.
right now it is waaaaay black. once it is rinsed then put through a wash I anticipate some loss. I will post pics in due course

I prefer the design like this.
notice that they have clearly used synthetic material to sew it. Whilst I had not anticipated this it makes for a very pleasant contrast, I think in its many forms we are fans of contrasting stitching here. So while it is not exactly a take on the rickson gibson range I am very very satisfied with the result

I think it would have taken a dark blue dye just as well. I have other M41's so its nice to have one that I can wear that isnt khaki..
